Hi Everyone due to the current restrictions in Northern Victoria Sunset Valley Chicks cannot attend Avenal Market until further notice and restrictions are lifted. I have personally spoken to AG Vic officials who say that things are under control. Lets hope so for the safety of our birds and please take care. We will be attending our other locations unless we notify you otherwise.
To see where we will be we update our socials and website weekly. Please be mindful if you are in the controlled or restricted areas as we cannot take or sell birds there or from there.

H7 avian influenza (bird flu) has been confirmed at 4 poultry properties in northern Victoria near Euroa.
Diagnostic tests confirmed a high pathogenicity strain of H7N8, which is consistent with other detections in the area. The tests were done at CSIRO’s Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness in Geelong.
This is a new outbreak and not related to the 2024 outbreaks in Victoria, New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory which were successfully eradicated.
This is not the H5N1 bird flu strain that is impacting other parts of the world.
A restricted area with a radius of about 5 km is in place around the infected properties. This is part of a larger control area in Strathbogie Shire, east of the Goulburn Valley Freeway. The goal is to prevent movements that could spread the virus.
Townships impacted include:
The control and restricted areas have specific rules.
